+ Instructions: 1) Unzip emulator, roms and disks to the same folder and then double-click emulator (Atari800Win.exe). It will guide you through setup. 2) To set the type of atari machine you want just use the menus. I recommend Atari 130 XE, 128 KB for Adams' games. Atari\ Machine type\ xl/xe Atari\ Memory size\ 128 (You won't notice any difference in performance if you set memory to a higher value). 3) To start game click File\ Autoboot image It will open a window where you must browse for the file you want to open (whatever.atr). In case the game is stored in two different disks, select side 1 and when you're prompted to turn the disk you can either : a) Click: File\Turn disk (It will only work if the file names only differ in a number before the extension: something_1.atr, something_2.atr ) or, b) Click: File\attach disk\Drive 1 and browse for the side b .... And you're ready to go. IMPORTANT: DO NOT use "Autoboot image" for loading side B of a game because it will reboot simulation before loading it. These instructions will work for most binary images you may find in the net, but if they don't better use help file. MORE IMPORTANT: Atari800Win is under development, so use it at your own risk. You may find some bugs if you run it under Windows 2000, as mentioned in emulator's README.TXT file, so better read it. + Graphics settings: Some Adventureland games required you to adjust your TV settings to reduce flickering colors. The emulator has many features that allow this too, since most Atari users used to connect it to a TV instead of a monitor. The following settings worked for me and I hope will do the same for you. * Full screen Only !!! * In small windows flickering speed will vary periodically in time because of the sync difference between monitor and emulator. 1)Click: View\Graphics Options\Advanced a)Select:"Blit from display mem..." b)Tick: "Synchronize blits with vertical blank" (This option needs a fast computer, and your monitor's refresh rate to be 60Hz) c)Tick: "Acces Display Memory ..." b)Tick: "Wait until blit ..." c)Display Memory Type: "System" c)Type of FX operation: "No Tearing" (Not necessary, but is the default setting) 2)Click: View\Palette a)Black Level: 0 b)White Level: 255 c)Saturation: 100 (If you increase it flickering intensity will increase as well, and if you decrease it will lose color) b)Browse for "Default.act" external palette. Should be in emulator's directory. c)Tick: "Use external palette" c)Tick: "Apply adjustment" 1)Click: Atari\Performance a)Percent of original Atari speed: 100 b)Don't use "run atari as fast as possible" unless you wan to miss any animation available. c)Screen Refresh Rate frequency: 1 This should reduce flickering to a tolerable level.
